2012 – A New Dawn

Hi folks!

Welcome to 2012 – the year of new beginnings and possibly the most final of endings!

As you can all see, The Perfect Apocalypse is following along nicely as Maria Selke gives us her interpretation of the landscape above ground, Michelle Lloyd and Arch take our heroine deeper into the bewildering environment and Jason Schiely puts up some more beautiful cover and concept art.

Hope you are all OK and, more importantly, reading, writing and drawing hard as this year is the year the Runaways make their stand. 2012 is going to be the year that Runaway Writings brings the conclusion to many of last years storylines but gives birth to many more sagas – limited only by your imagination!

More than ever do we want YOU to join our project! Whether you’re an artist, a writer or even a musician, Runaway has a place for you. It couldn’t be simpler to join our project. Read through our work, pick up a story strand you like and lets us know that you’d like to get involved in the next chapter. Comment below one of our posts or DM us on either Facebook or Twitter. What has Touched Down Has Removed Me Instead: David Tomaloff Captures the Essence, Ghosts and the Liquidity of Image Language in His New Chap Book of Poetry

A review by DAMM

Rarely in my lifetime have I been so excited to write about someone else’s poetry. There in fact has been only two occasions before this where I found it necessary to do so – My review of The Hurricane Lamp by my favorite poet of all time Sundin Richards and when my other favorite Edgar Allan Poe moved me to pen a 45 page analysis of his work back when I was a far younger man. There is yet another to mention, Richard Cronshey who’s The Snow and the Snow I wish to write about but cannot quite invent the words for those words because so much of its fantasticness is beyond my ability to say anything when in the presence of those words.

Today there is another. Today I must write about my first eXperience with a large dose of David Tomaloff.

In his chap book “A Soft That Touches Down & Removes itself” Tomaloff kicks the walls of notion and preconception to the ground. In the unrecognizable rubble that is left in your mind he surgically constructs vivid new images and passionately leads the reader to their own delights. The heart on the cover is so appropriate for this collection of poems because it beats unwaveringly through every page. I was committed, I was involved. I read it four or five time and am still smiling.

This is a testament to relationship, and a shining monument to the dialogue between a he and a she. A mechanical pulse

But I am disturbed by what my mind can do. The new associations and fresh imagery make this one of the finest modern poetry collections I have ever read. I read and have read a ton of poetry. I am impressed. See the following excerpt from a poem called “These Are A Ritual

The dirges were all villages;

we melted them into lead

we burned them all down

I said to make way for the “us”

It is these kinds of succinct abstractions that filter the meaning down like a warm drop of salt air or the icy finger of a bitter old man depending on the poem. This book is chalked full of meaning. Welcome All!

This is first my blog and here I’ll be writing and reviewing about the things I love and enjoy which are comic books and science fiction.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy it. I’ll be showcasing some of my own fiction, a regular review section and I hope to begin a global creative network of collaborative minds working together on one piece of fiction.

How’s that sound?

Doesn’t matter where your skills lie – be it prose, poetry or painting – all can be showcased here. All I ask is that we respect each other’s talents and skills. I’ll try to feed back on as much as possible but first we need to start pooling ideas for our piece.

The script will have to begin with a piece of prose based on something we devise but from then on our imaginations can go crazy on it.

Lets see what happens.

I’m excited.

You should be!

Our work is purely based on our love for the craft – writing and art. Runaway Writings is a blog that supports peoples talents and hobby and offers to showcase their work for free. Unfortunately, money cannot be offered for submissions – this is for fun!
